WhatsApp launches Corona Virus Information Platform to support health initiatives
WhatsApp today launched two initiatives to support the world’s battle against the Corona Virus epidemic: the global launch of the Corona Virus Information Platform in cooperation with the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations Development Program, in addition to donating $ 1 million to the International Fact-Finding Network affiliate The Poynter Institute.
The Corona Virus Information Platform is launched today, to provide applicable guidelines for health, education, community leaders, community foundations, local governments, and local companies that rely on WhatsApp for communication. The site also provides general advice, tips and resources for users around the world to reduce the spread of rumors and provide them with accurate health information.
As people need to move away from each other, WhatsApp will continue to play its role as a simple, safe and reliable means of communication. These recommendations provide quick guidance on how small groups benefit from WhatsApp features, and they will be distributed by the United Nations Development Fund to those responsible for coordinating local efforts. In addition, WhatsApp works with the World Health Organization and UNICEF to provide call centers and text inquiries to citizens from all parts of the world with whom they can communicate directly. These centers will provide valuable and reliable information and they will be included on WhatsApp’s Corona Virus information platform.
So far, WhatsApp has worked with a group of ministries of health and non-profit organizations to provide information to users via text messages in several countries. As these efforts continue, the platform will be updated with the latest sources.
